Water Quality
Essential to the production of high quality shellfish is water quality.
New Zealand's clean coastal waters produce some of the finest seafood in the world. The high quality of water in shellfish growing areas enables production of naturally grown shellfish that do not need chemical treatment to be food safe.
Growing areas are tested weekly for naturally occurring algae blooms that could comprimise food safety. Harvest is suspended in the event of a bloom until water testing indicates all risk is past.
